Welcome to the Fair Haven Arts Center!

Dear Friends -
Welcome Spring – it’s been a long winter, in more ways than one!  We at the Arts center have been planning events for the upcoming season – and are excited about some new things we have in store.  First of all we are excited about our season kick off and Art Show at the end of May,  which we are calling, "Connections: No One is an island"

Last year our Spring show, “Re-Awakening” -  represented  the transition from Winter to Spring and also our re-awakening from the world of masks & isolation..  We realize this year that a lot of people are still feeling a sense of isolation from the pandemic but we also realize that, ironically, the pandemic has made us see that we are NOT isolated – that something happening at one end of the world can affect us at the other, whether it be a virus or an act of kindness.  That WE ARE NOT AN ISLAND. - What we do or say does have impact – and can go beyond our “borders”.

This thought brought to mind a poem by John Donne (see below) and we decided to focus our Spring Show  on this concept; by calling it “Connections: No One is an Island”.
So what does this bring to mind for you?– perhaps you see the people in Ukraine helping each other survive against great odds, or a nurse risking her life to care for a Covid patient, or you may simply see the beauty of connecting to one another and to nature.  Whatever you see – we are anxious to see “Connections” through your eyes

Update:  Based on feedback from some of you and further discussion within our board, we have decided to dedicate our Spring show to the Ukrainians - in recognition of their inspirational fight to save each other and their country.  If we could all be so brave and caring!

And so we are planning to donate the Arts Center's commissions on any sales during the show  to a not-for-profit humanitarian fund to support the Ukrainian people in their struggle. In addition we are planning a raffle/silent auction of some donated artwork with proceeds to also go to this fund.
See Events page for the "Call for Entries" with further details on the show and how to enter.  Please email us if you have any questions at fairhavenart@gmail.com
.
As always - we thank you for your support - and we look forward to your interpretation of "Connections"!

P.S. If you are interested in donating any artwork to the raffle/silent auction, please let us know.

For this show we will be accepting all media, including writing.  The show is planned to open on May 27 – see Events page for more details.

We really hope you will consider participating –--

No Man is an Island –
                 John Donne
“No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
Or of thine own were:
Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee”.
