Dear Friends:
We at the FHAC are very excited about the events we have been planning for the coming season – and wanted to give you a peek of what’s to come!. We will be kicking off the season on May 24 with a Student Art Show. This year we are happy to feature artwork from the Hannibal high school – we got a preview of their work in our Winter Photo contest in February and were quite impressed – can’t wait to see what they bring to us in May! Following that, our Spring Art Show opens on June 21 – this show features themes of Hope & Spring and is open to all - more detail on that to come shortly. In July we will be bringing back our Fair Haven Retrospective (FHR) show – with themes of Fair Haven, Then & Now - looking back to the Fair Haven in the 1800’s & early 1900’’s to give us some insight as to how we got to be the Fair Haven of today. Some of you may have heard that Fair Haven is planning to do a mural in town with an historic bent. We are hoping some of the artwork submitted for the FHR show will give us ideas for this mural. So start planning now for what you’d like to see on the mural! There are also other new aspects of this show regarding “Freedom” that we are planning. More to come! Later this summer (August 16 through Labor Day) will be our “Local Artist” show. We will devote this show to several local artists, giving them an opportunity to display a variety of their works and to give you a chance to meet them. And in the Fall, we will once again host the Sterling Art Show during the Leaf Peeper weekend in October. This year we will also hold a series of “Artist Talks “– where six local artists & writers - Debra Rose, Pat Hanford, Robert Kolsters, Paul Garland, Lee Hanford, & Kyle Meddaugh - will talk either about their own work or give an in-depth presentation on a Master artist or Masterwork they have chosen to feature. Also new this year is a film series we will be hosting, featuring various films on artists & musicians – including “Lust for Life”, “Frida”, Pollack”. “Amadeus”, and “Woman in Gold”. In this series we will have one of our artists or board members introduce the film and lead a discussion after the film. By the way we are hoping to have more comfortable seats in our “Performance” barn this year – assuming we get the grant we applied for in February (fingers crossed)! We will also be presenting two plays this summer – “The Golden Girls of Hollywood”. a comedy and “The Story of Belle Kirk Rea”, an historic play with a twist, written by town historian, Susie Parsons. Details on all these events as well as other events, classes & discussion groups we are planning will follow. Just wanted to give you a sampling of what’s to come! Oh, and I almost forgot --- In support of Fair Haven’s “3rd Fridays” (where local businesses and the art community together do something special on the 3rd Friday of the month), we are planning to have the openings of all our shows, starting in June to be on the 3rd Friday of the month - and we will have a reception from 4-7 pm on that date. So mark your calendars! Hope to see you there- Please note our membership year starts June 1st. . Forms will be available at the performances should you wish to renew then. **************************************** Our purpose is to enhance involvement in the arts for everyone in the greater Fair Haven community, and to support education in the arts for all ages.
